Helping vulnerable mothers and their children in Russia

"When I was pregnant, I was left alone on the street with no place to go. I got a shelter and food here at the centre. They helped me a lot in that difficult moment of my life." - Alexandra, project beneficiary, Centre for Social Support to Family and Children, Sverdlovsk Region, Russia.

The number of young child abandonment increases every year in Russia. Most of these infants end up in state care centres, and only some of them are given a chance to be adopted. Better social services helping young mothers could prevent them from abandoning their child. An EU-funded project aims to develop a network of services in the Sverdlovsk region to support vulnerable mothers and prevent young child abandonment.
