European Union Border Assistance Mission

Borders are a vital tool in promoting a safe environment in which trade and people to people contacts can flourish. Effective border management should facilitate, not hinder, trade and contacts across borders. The European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) was established by the EU at the joint request of the Presidents of Moldova and Ukraine in 2005. The Mission seeks to make a sustainable contribution to enhancing the delivery of good quality border and customs services to the citizens
of the two countries and thus to contribute to a peaceful solution of the Transniestria conflict.
