EU welcomes Armenian government consultation on broadcasting law amendments

EU Heads of Mission in Armenia have welcomed the willingness of the government to hold public consultations on draft amendments to the law regulating the broadcasting sector and the fact that some positive changes have been introduced to the text currently under discussion, in line with recommendations by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, the Council of Europe and civil society, the EU Delegation in Armenia has said in a statement on their behalf.
“The EU Heads of Mission encourage the government and legislators to continue working closely with civil society, the Council of Europe and the OSCE experts with a view to bring the law further in line with international standards to enhance plurality in the Armenian media and to promote media freedom,” the statement said.
