EU brings Tasty Europe to Russia in series of promotion events

01-09-2010

The European Union is bringing “Tasty Europe” to Moscow in a new initiative to promote European food and cuisine in Russia, the EU’s second largest export market.

The series of activities in September is being launched as the EU further expands into the Russian market, aiming to increase awareness of European food products among Russian customers, according to a press release from the EU Delegation to Russia.

The main aim is to increase awareness of European food products among Russian customers - not only importers, food industry executives and retailers, but also directly among consumers - and generate interest in the diversity, quality and excellence of authentic European cuisine, the press release says.

The first event will take place at World Food Moscow 2010 from 14-17 September. The EU will have its own stand at Pavilion 8, Hall 1 with a large selection of dairy products, wines and spirits, fruit and vegetables, olive oil, and organic farming products. In addition, highly qualified chefs will perform live cooking demonstrations to visitors.

Then, on 16 September, World Food Moscow 2010 will hold ‘Tasty Europe Day’, with a big conference on European food products organized under the “Tasty Europe” initiative.

Leading Russian and European experts, retailers and restaurant business representatives will discuss different topics concerning market advantages of agricultural products from Europe and their perspectives on the Russian market. Special attention will be given to EU schemes known as PDO (protected designation of origin), PGI (protected geographical indication) and TSG (traditional speciality guaranteed) which promote and protect names of quality agricultural products and foodstuffs.

In addition, in-store promotions of European products will be orginized in 15 Perekrestok supermarkets in Moscow and 4 Karusel supermarkets in St. Petersburg from 13-19 September.
