Ukraine: working to preserve historical memory and dialogue between generations

Euroclubs across Ukraine came together for a workshop at the weekend focused on preserving historical memory and sustaining dialogue between generations, according to a press release from the EU Delegation in Kyiv.

The workshop was part of a project that will be implemented by the European clubs in Ukraine within the framework of the European year for active ageing and intergenerational solidarity 2012.

The workshop aimed to educate coordinators and leaders of European clubs to preserve historical memory and facilitate dialogue between generations, and develop the skills for working with war survivors.

Participants were selected from different regions of Ukraine through a competition, where they had to conduct interviews with witnesses of the Second World War, and send materials for placement on the project site: www.iremember.org.ua.

The project "Involving youth European clubs to preserve historical memory in Ukraine" is implemented by the NGO "Ukrainian European Studies Association" with the support of the International NGO "International Fund "Mutual Understanding and Tolerance" and with the assistance of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, which supports the movement of European clubs in Ukraine.

European Clubs are a form of youth organization that promotes the creative self-realization of its members, and attracts young people to participate in European initiatives, spread information on European integration, civic education and social activities of youth.

In Ukraine there are about 1,000 youth Euroclubs mostly at school level. (ENPI Info Centre)
