EU-Russia Energy Council highlights key issues
08-12-2011
Key issues of EU-Russia energy relations such as security of supply, gas infrastructure, electricity cooperation and energy efficiency were the focus of the EU-Russia Energy Permanent Partnership Council held on1 December in Moscow.
A press release said that during the meeting, the European Commissioner for Energy Günther H. Oettinger, and Russia’s Minister of Energy Sergey Shmatko discussed developments within the Joint Thematic Groups.
They also welcomed the progress in the preparation of EU-Russia Energy Roadmap until 2050 and signed the 12th Progress Report of the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue. The Report takes stock of the latest developments in the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue, in particular the newly established Gas Advisory Council, which in October this year agreed its priorities for next year. These include:
- Assess the possible long-term trends of EU-Russia gas relations;
- Discuss and evaluate ongoing issues of concern for EU-Russia relations, in particular the structure of the EU and Russian gas markets;
- Consider the short and long-term implications of EU-Russia gas relations for gas infrastructure both within the EU, Russia and transit countries. (ENPI Info Centre)
