Over 300,000 euros for football cross-border project in Russia and Estonia

Cross countries through football is a new cross-border sports project implemented by the Estonian Football Association (Estonia) together with FC Narva Trans (Estonia) and the Administration of Pechory District, Children’s Sport School (Russia). The EU-funded project is expected to contribute to strengthening local sports clubs on both sides of the border.

The overall objective of the project is to encourage cooperation in the field of youth between EU member states and neighbouring countries in the border region, thus fostering mutual understanding. The project is funded through the Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme.

People from Tallinn, Narva and Pechory, who are interested in football and the development of pre-professional football clubs, have joined to prepare and jointly implement the current project. The investments on both sides are accompanied with numerous activities - both trainings and championships. This will give an opportunity for youngsters to engage in sports, and for those, who have already active lifestyles, to improve their training conditions.

Among the expected results of the Project are: the installation of an artificial football pitch inNarva Kalevi and the finalization of improvements to the football ground in Pechory; 600 matches played in two years involving 2,250 people, several summer camps, winter cups and seminars about football management for trainers both from Estonia and Pechory.

The total budget for the two year project stands at 332,602.

The objective of the Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme is to promote joint development activities for the improvement of the region’s competitiveness by using its potential at the crossroads between the EU and Russia. Specifically, it aims to make the wider border area an attractive place for both its inhabitants and businesses through activities aimed at improving living standards and investment climate. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
