Ukraine: European Village opens its doors in time for Euro2012

Today, the European Village 2012 opens its doors in Kyiv to flag the European Football Championship that will take place over the next month in Ukraine and in Poland.

Symbolically placed under the Arch of Friendship in Kyiv the European Village will run under the slogan ‘Our Continent. Our Future’ and present European Union and Ukrainian cooperation through: music, films, debates and other activities in eleven key fields.
 
Until 1 July, visitors are invited to visit, watch, drink, listen and take part in the colourful and engaging programme, every day from 10:30 am-10 pm – and midnight on week-ends.
 
The opening ceremony was headed the by EU and German ambassadors and Head of the Kyiv Administration.
 
The events of the opening day include sessions on:
 
1) European Union-Ukraine Relations: public debate with EU Ambassadors; 2) Ukraine in the Eastern Partnership: discussion with EU Delegation, Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and other experts; 3) Reform and Europe: discussion with EU Delegation and experts on European Reunification, EU economic standards and Energy.
 
Guests of the European Village are also welcome to watch the “Football Cup of European Embassies”, to visit the interactive exhibitions in the “Thematic Park” or to enjoy the concert “Euro Start Ukraine 2012", with children from all over Ukraine gathering in Kyiv.
 
The European Village is a German-Ukrainian initiative in partnership with the European Union and the City of Kyiv. Presenting Ukraine and Europe in an interactive and entertaining way, the European Village 2012 will showcase new initiatives of international cooperation for development and strengthen Ukrainian-European cooperation.
