Ukraine: winners of energy saving and energy efficiency schools poster contest announced

The winners of an poster contest for children around the theme of energy saving and energy efficiency, held in Ukraine as part of the European Union/United Nations Development Programme project ‘Community Based Approach (CBA) to Local Development’ (CBA-II), have been announced. The competition committee received more than 90 entries from schools all over Ukraine.

The results were based on votes by an expert jury and by visitors of an exhibition of posters that took place as part of the energy efficiency week in the European Village in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The winner was a work which reflected both the appeal for energy saving and usage of alternative energy sources by 11-year-old Yaroslav Nechesnyi. Second place went to a piece of art by Oleksandr Tsytsyk, in which he tried to reflect different technologies of alternative energy sources.

The CBA-II Project is funded by the European Union and is co-financed and implemented by UNDP, with the support of the Ukrainian government and in partnership with local authorities. The Project’s total budget is €17 million over 4 years (2011-2015). The project aims to promote sustainable socio-economic development at local level by strengthening participatory governance and encouraging community-based initiatives throughout Ukraine. It specifically aims to promote a community-based approach to local governance and sustainable development and to enhance energy efficiency at local level.
