Save the forest video aims to raise awareness in Moldova
29-07-2010
The ENPI FLEG forestry protection project in Moldova has produced a 60-second video called "Protect the Forest", aiming to sensitise the Moldovan public on the issue of forest protection.
The video shows forest life in harmony with its surrounding environment, and alerts the viewer on the importance of its defence, highlighting how deforestation can lead to natural disaster and flooding.
The video came to life as a result of the cooperation between the ENPI-FLEG Programme office in Moldova (IUCN, WB), the Moldovan Forest Research and Management Institute and the Agency "Moldsilva".
The Republic of Moldova is a country with poor forest resources that are exposed to various risks such as desertification, soil degradation, water shortages, etc. Existing forests are therefore extremely important for local communities and for maintaining an ecological equilibrium, a press release from the project said.
The video-spot will be aired on local TV stations and will be posted on the websites of Moldovan eco-NGOs.
The €6 million ENPI Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) programme supports governments, civil society and the private sector in the development of sound and sustainable forest management practices, including the prevention of illegal forestry activities. (ENPI Info Centre)
