Press pack: Euro-Med cooperation in enhancing the role of women

Ahead of the Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial conference on Strengthening the role of women in society to take place on 11-12 November in Marrakesh (Morocco), the ENPI Info Centre has prepared a press pack on the EU’s efforts to enhance gender equality within the framework of the Euro-Med Partnership. The package includes:

  • A background note on ‘Euro-Med cooperation in enhancing the role of women’, which details EU policy on the issue, a priority from the Barcelona Process to the new Union for the Mediterranean.   • An interview with Judith Neisse, director of the EU-funded programme Enhancing Equality between Men and Women in the Euromed Region, who outlines the legal and political responsibilities of governments towards the principle of equality between all citizens, insisting “human rights are women’s rights too”.   • A fiche with comprehensive information on the programme, Enhancing Equality between Men and Women in the Euromed Region, which began at the end of 2008, and aims to build on the achievements of an earlier project, ‘Role of Women in Economic Life’. To read the fiche, click here
