EC opens consultation on Migration and Asylum Programme
25-02-2010
The European Commission is inviting stakeholders to contribute to the mid-term review of its Thematic Programme “Cooperation with Third Countries in the areas of Migration and Asylum”.
An EC announcement said the consultation, open until 30 March 2010, aims to assess whether the Thematic Programme still reflects adequately the political priorities and is well adapted to the current international context as regards migratory flows, and to define the programme's multi-annual strategy for the period 2011-2013.
The Issues Paper put online for public consultation aims at contributing to such reflection on the future orientation of the Thematic Programme, as regards its rationale, scope, strategic objectives and priorities, approach and implementation, by raising a number of aspects to be considered in the definition of the new strategy. The programme's main stakeholders, including Member States, European Parliament and civil society, as well as European Commission own research and existing EU policy frameworks, are strongly encouraged to send their views and comments on these issues, as well as any others that they might find relevant in the context of this Mid-Term Review.
Although contributions from individuals are welcomed, this consultation targets in particular EU, international and third countries' organisations and public authorities active in the field of migration and asylum, more particularly those concerned by EU cooperation with third countries in these areas.
Contributions must focus on the issues raised above and should not exceed five pages.
The general aim of the Thematic Programme “Cooperation with Third Countries in the areas of Migration and Asylum” is to provide support for Non-EU Member Countries so that they can better manage migratory flows. Since its inception in 2007, approximately 64 projects have been approved for funding for a total amount of €102.3 million.
