New publication shows huge increase in EU spending in Moldova

From 1991 to 2007, the European Commission provid­ed assistance to Moldova worth more than €400 million, according to a new publication by the EU Delegation to Moldova, ‘EU and Moldova: Assistance and Cooperation’.

The publication consists of two parts, giving an overview of relations between the two parties, in English and Moldavian. It refers to bilateral, thematical and regional projects funded.
 
In his introduction, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel, who says EU assistance to Moldova increased fourfold from €10 million a year in 2003 to over €63 million in 2007, while for 2007-2010 it reached €250 million under the European Neighbourhood Policy Instrument. “As what happens at our borders affects us, we want to support Moldova’s aspirations to political and economic stability and help the country pursue the path of reforms. That’s why we are here…”
 
The first part focuses on EU-Moldova cooperation and the Delegation’s mandate, followed by major achievements and priorities. It also describes new instruments for EU assistance and cooperation, and includes a section with links on how to apply for EU funding.
 
The second part is a detailed list of bilateral and regional projects with project description and objectives, dates of implementation, budget, target groups, partners, and contacts.
