EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia celebrates tenth anniversary of the UN Resolution on Women, Peace and Security

The EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) is to join the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security on 3 November, according to a press release.
 
Field Office Zugdidi will invite female civil society representatives, local government as well as the business community to discuss the roles that may be played by these sectors in the peace process. It will be an open event with a skype-link to Brussels, by Director General for Human Rights, Ms Katariina Leinonen. 
 
Following the anniversary event, EUMM Headquarters and EUMM Field Offices Mtskheta and Gori will hold a variety of presentations focusing on various aspects of the Resolution, including confidence building between the conflict parties, taking place in Tbilisi during the second week of November.
 
UNSCR 1325 sparked a new way of thinking about the impact of conflict on women and their role in peace processes, the press release explains. It highlights concerns regarding crimes against women in conflicts and women’s rights during the conflict resolution process. It further gives guidance to policymakers and international peace-brokers and peace-keeping initiatives.
 
The EU, which fully supports the Resolution and subsequent documents, has a comprehensive approach for its implementation, recognising the close links between peace, security, development and gender equality. (ENPI Info Centre)
