New Twinning project: EU and Ukraine work together to improve energy efficiency
30-03-2012
A new twinning project has been launched in Ukraine working on improvement of energy efficiency and its approximation to the requirements of the EU legislation, as part of a priority for the EU and Ukraine agenda.
According to a press release from EU Delegation to Ukraine, the project aims to establish an operational system of effective legislation and policy in the sphere of energy efficiency, aligned to the requirements of EU legislation.
With the ultimate goal of reducing energy consumption and wastage, and the consumption of the primary energy resources, it will help harmonise selected national legislation with the relevant EU acquis and prepare its implementation as per the provisions of the Energy Community Treaty, which Ukraine joined in February 2011. The project will also look at EU best practice to strengthen tools and mechanisms to maximize the impact of the new legislative framework.
A German-French Consortium, headed by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), will support the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine with a team of experts on legal energy efficient framework, energy audits and performance, standardization, labelling and certification as well as in financial schemes.
