Wind energy discussed at workshop in Baku

A workshop on wind energy, jointly organized by the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan and the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of Azerbaijan (SAARES), was held in Baku on 14 March.  The workshop was part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership between the EU and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of energy.
A press release from the European Commission said the aim of the workshop was to compare the experience of Azerbaijan in the field of the alternative and renewable energy with that of the EU.
 
Charge d'Affaires of the EU Delegation Jerome Pons told participants that the EU sought to enhance its alternative and renewable energy production in the forthcoming years, adding the EU is the biggest investor in this sector on the global scale with €2-3 billion per year.
 
Deputy Director of SAARES Jamil Malikovsaid the Azerbaijani government attached great importance to the development of alternative energy resources, seeking to establish an adequate legislative basis and to ensure sufficient funds to develop this sector. Since the establishment of SAARES, he said, a range of measures have been taken, and now the Agency is working on the preparation of the law on alternative energy. (ENPI Info Centre)
