Nurturing an energy saving outlook: EU supports children's contest in Ukraine

On 6 April 2012 more then 300 best works will be displayed at this year's creativity contest 'Children for Clean Energy' at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv, according to a press release from the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

Out of 2,500 participants, the award ceremony will gather over 35 winners from different regions of Ukraine, from both regular and boarding schools, the press release continues.

The contest was organized by the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) aiming to nurture a completely new energy saving outlook and behaviour among young people and children and hosting the competition for the 4th year in a row.

Continuing cooperation with Ukraine in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, the European Union is supporting the exhibition and an award ceremony for winners within the framework of the Sector Budget Support Project 'Capacity Building to the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE)'.

“Our future, the future of Ukraine is with these non-indifferent, creative and active children,” stated Mykola Pashkevych, the Head of the SAEE, opening last year's award ceremony. The contest strives to attract a young generation to educational and practical activities related to energy saving and energy efficiency.

It gathers talented children from different parts of the country and provides opportunities for the development of their creative abilities and professional identity. There are three categories in which winners are being selected: 1) the best drawing about energy saving, 2) the best motto and 3) the best handcrafted item made of waste. There are two age divisions: children from 6 to 11 years and children from 12 to 16 years. (ENPI Info Centre)
