Factories of Imagination: EU-Russia Contemporary Art Festival kicked off in Kostroma
01-06-2012
This week, Kostroma in Russia is hosting an International Contemporary Art Festival with the participation of musicians, dancers and performers from Russia and Europe.
According to a press release from the EU Delegation in Russia, this is one of the final events of the EU-funded transdisciplinary contemporary performing arts project ‘Factories of the Imagination’, implemented in the framework of an EU-Russia Programme supporting EU-Russia cultural initiatives, aiming to encourage EU-Russia exchanges and co-productions in the sphere of the contemporary performing arts.
The multi-genre festival in Kostroma presents all aspects of the project and its results, summing up various events that took place at different art venues in Austria, Belgium and Russia during 2011-2012.
The project has combined various modes of artistic collaboration: artistic residencies, numerous co-productions, conferences – ‘Factories of the Imagination’ - and events where musicians, artists, performers were contemplating, experimenting and creating new projects in the area of contemporary performing arts.
Festival activities focus not only on presenting different creative projects, but also on involving Kostroma citizens into their creation and realization.
The main task of the Festival is to get the citizens interested, to stimulate creative initiatives, to provide a place for realization of artistic potential and indicate possible ways of bringing to life creative projects of different scale. The Festival will also give a chance to take a new look at some of Kostroma’s cultural venues, where the participants of the event will organize special interactive performances.
The headliners of the main festival programme will be the performances created in the framework of ‘Factories of the Imagination’ at ‘Stantsia’ art-venue (Kostroma) and ‘Aktoviy Zal’ cultural centre (Moscow). The International Children’s Day will be marked by an Italian interactive performance “Japanese Garden”, in which by using digital technology the actors together with the audience will turn the stage of Ostrovskiy Theatre into a fantastic space. An art concept created by ‘Kremnev Atelier’ (Yaroslavl) in cooperation with ‘Stantsia’ art-venue will help the audience to rediscover the city through unexpected images and completely reform Kostroma’s day-to-day realities.
