Armenia: infrastructure projects in focus as TRACECA Secretary General visits Yerevan

The Secretary General of TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia), Mr. E. Biriucov, completed a working visit to Armenia in late June. The visit took in various meetings with representatives of the Armenian authorities, including with Mr. Gagik Beglaryan, Chairman of the National Commission of TRACECA in Armenia.
Views were exchanged on the Investment Forums held in Brussels (2010 and 2012), infrastructure projects presented by Armenia at the last Forum, in particular the creation of a logistics centre and transport infrastructure operating in the territory of Zvartnotz international airport in Yerevan.
Discussions were held on the priority issues of further development of the ‘Europe-Caucasus-Asia’ international transport corridor and the strategic and integration outlook for the region for the purpose of the further implementation of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) TRACECA Strategy for the period up to 2015.
Other discussion points were major issues in the course of implementation of ongoing TRACECA technical assistance projects, further institutional improvement of the IGC TRACECA structures as well as the Action Plan for 2013 in the context of the discussion of the annual conference of the IGC to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) is an international transport cooperation programme between the EU and its Partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. It has a permanent Secretariat in Baku, Azerbaijan. The cooperation framework covers the areas of maritime transport, aviation, road and rail, transport security and transport infrastructure.
