Azerbaijan: New manual produced for volunteer groups dealing with wildfires

A comprehensive manual on prevention and assistance in response to wildfires has been developed for volunteer groups fighting forest fires. This concludes the current phase of the EU-funded ENPI FLEG (European Neighbourhood Policy Instrument Forest Law Enforcement and Governance) Programme in Azerbaijan.
 
The manual includes information about positive international experiences, the current situation in the country and related challenges regarding fire security in forest regions. It is expected to become an effective support tool in cooperation between official state structures and the local population and youth in the area of prevention and containment of wildfires in Azerbaijan.
 
While working on producing the manual, the ENPI FLEG Programme’s experts cooperated extensively with specialists from various ministries and academic centres. These included the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Forest Development Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Centre of Ecological Education and Experience.
 
The €6 million European Neighbourhood Policy Instrument (ENPI) Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) Programme supports governments, civil society and the private sector in the development of sound and sustainable forest management practices, including the prevention of illegal forestry activities.
