Window of Opportunity: EuropeAid conference on ‘must-read’ book

EuropeAid’s External Cooperation Info Point is organising a conference in Brussels on Thursday, May 28 on the book, ‘Window of Opportunity: EU Development Cooperation after the End of the Cold War’, by Dr. Mirjam van Reisen.

The conference will be addressed by the author, an expert on EU development policy and Director of European External Policy Advisors (EEPA), and by the General Director of EuropeAid Mr Koos Richelle, who has described the book as “a ‘must-read’ for those who try to understand what development cooperation is all about.”

According to a EuropeAid announcement, the evolution of EU development co-operation after the fall of the Berlin Wall has allowed the European Union to emerge as a global player. The book argues that proposals to bring development co-operation into the areas of diplomatic, defence and security policies will undermine the effectiveness of EU development policies and weaken the global role of the EU.

The conference will be in English and registration is required.
