EU concern at eviction of Palestinian family in East Jerusalem

The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah on Saturday issued a statement to condemn the eviction of the Annatscha family from their home in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Beit Hanina and to express their deep concern at the Israeli plan to build a new settlement in East Jerusalem, arguing that settlements are illegal under international law.

The statement pointed to Article 49, paragraph 6, of the Fourth Geneva Convention which states that “the Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies”. It added that the international community has repeatedly called on Israel to cease settlement activity. (ENPI Info Centre)
