Ashton: Damascus blast underlines need for concerted action to enforce Syria peace plan

Yesterday's devastating bomb attack against top military and security officials in Damascus underlines the need for concerted international action to enforce the Annan peace plan, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said in a short statement last night.

The statement issued by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs said:

"Today's bomb attack against senior Syrian military and security officials in Damascus underlines the urgent need for concerted action by the UN Security Council and the international community to enforce Kofi Annan's peace plan. I condemn the attack and am deeply concerned at the escalating violence and its tragic consequences for the Syrian population. It is of the utmost priority that violence stops now and that all parties engage in a peaceful settlement of the conflict." (EU Neighbourhood Info)
