EU and Mediterranean partners review industrial cooperation work programme progress and plan forward

The European Commission’s DG Enterprise and Industry held a working party on Euro-Mediterranean Industrial cooperation in Brussels on 10 and 11 July, during which the EC and its Mediterranean partners reviewed progress and planned the next steps in implementing the 2011-2012 work programme on Euro-Mediterranean Industrial cooperation. The meeting also started to discuss the 2013-2014 work programme.

The event kicked off with a meeting of National Coordinators of the Euro-Mediterranean Charter for Enterprise who addressed capacity building and training and reviewed actions implemented since November 2011 and the next steps. The meeting also discussed charter adaptation, focussing on SMEs and job creation.

The working party started with proposals by the European Commission for the 2013-2014 work programme on Euro-Mediterranean industrial cooperation, then action implemented under the 2011-2012 work programme was reviewed and next steps discussed. The first day concluded with a session on EU’s support to private sector development in Mediterranean neighbour countries.

Among the topics addressed on the second day of meeting was the survey on sustainable enterprise development, activities of the European Investment Bank in Mediterranean neighbour countries and future priorities in Euro-Mediterranean industrial cooperation: the viewpoints of the business sector, panel discussion with representatives of business associations. Most sessions concluded with open discussions.
