Press Pack: EU support to press freedom and dialogue
03-05-2010

With World Press Freedom Day celebrated across the world today, 3 May, the ENPI Info Centre has put together a press pack highlighting the EU’s support to press freedom and dialogue in the Neighbourhood.
“Between the countries of the region, the media can help in combating prejudice and intolerance,” said European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, ahead of this year’s Press Freedom Day, adding: “Between the neighbourhood region and the EU, the media can help in increasing knowledge and fighting misconceptions and false expectations. In both cases, the gains for the region and for the EU are immeasurable.”
Recognising the value of dialogue and support to journalists and the media in the Neighbourhood area, the EU funds projects that range from journalism training and networking, to journalistic productions and visits, as well as organising several media awards open to journalists in the region. The press pack – available in English, French and Arabic for the South, and in Russian for the East– highlights all these elements, as well as providing useful links for further information.
