Füle reaffirms EU support to host countries of Syrian refugees following visit to Zaatari refugee Camp

EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle stressed that the EU and the international community stand by the host communities of Syrian refugees and their population. “In addressing the impact of Syrian crisis you are not alone - you have us, international community at your side”, he said following a visit to the Zaatari refugee Camp after inaugurating a new school and signing an agreement with UNICEF on financing educational projects for Syrian children.

“The signature for the financing of this important project is a significant step in providing education to the children of Syrian refugees in Zaatari camp. But there are many more, tens of thousands Syrians had to abandon their country. However that does not mean they are abandoned by us. We have particular responsibility vis-a-vis the young generation, making sure is not a lost generation but a generation that is going to build a new future”, said the Commissioner.
He also thanked the EU’s international partners UNHCR, UNICEF, UNESCO for their efforts as well as the Jordanian government for receiving the Syrian refugees. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
