EU helps strengthen social dialogue in Lebanon

Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, met with the Minister of Labour, Charbel Nahas last week to seek ways to enhance social dialogue in the country. Discussions mainly focused on the role of social partners, including unions, and the upcoming re-launch of the Lebanese Forum on Economic and Social Development.
 
The Forum was previously organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon between 2007 and 2009.
 
The same topics will be discussed during the three EU-Lebanon subcommittees which are due to be held in Brussels this week within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy.
 
The subcommittees are expected to gather representatives from the Lebanese administration and the European Union, and mainly focus on three themes: social policy and migration, justice, freedom and security, as well as human rights, democracy and governance.(ENPI Info Centre)
