Gouv’Airnance: Mediterranean cities against air pollution
21-05-2012

The first meeting of the Gouv’Airnance project (Governance of air quality in Mediterranean cities), funded under the Cross Border Cooperation in the Mediterranean (CBCMed) programme, took place in Tripoli, Lebanon on 17, 18 and 19 April 2012.
The event kicked off a series of concrete exchanges of information as to the current state of both air quality and monitoring systems in the partner territories. These are Tripoli (Lebanon), Aqaba (Jordan), Valencia (Spain) and Marseille (France).
The Gouv’Airnance project aims to reduce urban air pollution in the Mediterranean area by setting up measurement systems and developing a system of integrated territorial governance for the air quality sector. Based on a crosscutting approach involving all the key players concerned by air quality, Gouv’Airnance will improve monitoring and alert systems in the partner territories.
The project has a total budget of €1,982,213 over a period of 36 months and is coordinated by the Institute of the Mediterranean, located in Marseille, in partnership with other local organisations.
The ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007/2013 is a multilateral cross-border cooperation programme co-financed by the EU as part of the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
