World Environment Day: neighbourhood cooperation in action

"Protecting the environment is actually protecting ourselves," says EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik in a video message on his website: "it's about the future; not only about our future but about the future of all of us who share this planet Earth; it's more than the economy, it's our life." Today, World Environment Day, the EU Neighbourhood Info Centre has put together a package illustrating neighbourhood environment cooperation in pictures, with a photo gallery, videos, and an exclusive new feature story from Tunisia.
 
The photo gallery brings together 35 photos from across the Neighbourhood, from Morocco all the way to Azerbaijan, showing some of the region's most beautiful natural environments, some of the devastating pollution that blights them, and some of the actions supported by the EU to stem the tide.
 
Two video clips produced by the EU Neighbourhood Info Centre also highlight cooperation with Southern Neighbours and Eastern Neighbours. The south video is also available in Arabic, while the East video is available in Russian.
 
Finally, a brand new feature story reports from Tunisia, where the EU's Horizon 2020 programme for the depollution of the Mediterranean is working with support from the European Investment Bank on a project to restore water quality and ecosystems in the badly polluted area of Lake Bizerte. Many more features on environment cooperation highlight EU cooperation in the Neighbourhood East and the South.
