Euromed News publishes Arabic version of ‘Gender toolkit’ for audiovisual productions

19-04-2010

A self-assessment instrument for audiovisual productions, the ‘Screening Gender’ toolkit, conceived by the EBU, has been adapted, in Arabic, for the media of the Southern short of the Mediterranean by the EU-funded project Euromed News.

The transversal ‘Gender Equality’ strategy applied in the framework of Euromed-News, involves all the aspects of the initiative, both in terms of the composition of operational and coordination teams and the topics covered by the TV productions.

The objective of this strategy is to encourage, through the media involved, a reflection about the evolution of the role of women in the South-Mediterranean societies and to promote an image going beyond clichés and stereotypes.

The partner televisions produce news and magazines covering all the different aspects of the gender issue. EPTV, in cooperation with JRTV and SNRT, has begun the production of a documentary devoted to the Mediterranean woman’s emancipation through her economic development.

The EuroMed-News project aims to broaden knowledge about the EU's policies in the region and the relationship between the EU and individual Mediterranean countries. Spearheaded by France Télévisions, it brings together broadcasters in Europe and in Algeria, Jordan, Libya, Syria, Morocco and Lebanon. Together, they will produce 300 news features, 40 short current affairs programmes and nine 26-minute documentaries.

EuroMed-News is funded under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) through EuropeAid’s €19 million Regional Information and Communication Programme. (ENPI Info Centre)
