Anna Lindh celebrates Alexandria summer nights
09-06-2010
Over the weekend of 18-19 June 2010, Alexandria will play host to a festival of cultural activities, supported by the Anna Lindh Foundation, which will bring together representatives from all 27 EU Member States as well as musicians and artists across the two shores of the Mediterranean.
A press release said the initiative, timed to celebrate the start of summer, aims to allow people in Alexandria and Egypt to experience the different cultures and opportunities from across Europe and the Mediterranean Region, and is being supported by a range of partners, including the Delegation of the European Union in Egypt, the Goethe Institute, the French Cultural Centre, the Turkish Consulate as well as the members states of the European Union.
During the two days, people will have the opportunity to taste traditional food and drinks from all around Europe, participate in a first joint performance of hip-hop artists from France, Germany, Turkey and Egypt, watch together live World Cup football, and learn more about the various opportunities offered by institutions in Egypt ranging from international mobility to cultural and learning experiences.
The Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is a €7 million EU-funded project which aims at bringing people and organisations of the region closer and promoting dialogue, by offering them opportunities to work together on projects in the fields of culture, education, science, human rights, sustainable development, the empowerment of women and the arts. The Foundation is the first institution to be jointly created and co-financed by all member countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. (ENPI Info Centre)
