‘Citizenship and prevention of Statelessness’ in Euromed Migration project training

16-06-2010

A training session on Legal Migration organized by the EU-funded Euromed Migration II project will cover the theme of ‘Citizenship and prevention of Statelessness: International and European Standards’.

An announcement said the workshop, to take place between 22 and 24 June in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, aims to equip trainees with knowledge on international and European standards pertaining to citizenship and the reduction of statelessness, and create an understanding of the existing linkages between citizenship and migration policies.

It will provide an overview on the concept of European citizenship, the potential and limitations for national diaspora/communities abroad, and facilitate experience exchange on policies and practices of the countries of trainees, enabling trainees to identify best practices in this field. The workshop will also create and develop awareness on current trends and methods regarding dual/multiple nationality and on the importance of enacting gender-neutral legislation.

Euromed Migration II aims at strengthening cooperation in the management of migration so as to build up the Mediterranean Partners' capacity to provide an effective, targeted and comprehensive solution to the various forms of migration.  It assists them in creating mechanisms to promote opportunities for legal migration, support for measures to promote the linkage between migration and development and the stepping up of activities to stamp out people trafficking and illegal immigration, and to manage mixed flows.
