05-08-2010
Publishers of children’s books in Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria are invited to submit their books in Arabic and get the opportunity to win the Children’s book award 2010 organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation in the framework of its Arab Children’s Literature Regional Programme.
A press release said the annual competition under the theme “Reading Here, There and Everywhere” recognizes the best new unpublished fiction for children, written in Arabic and set for release in winter 2010-2011. The award aims at supporting and encouraging the publication of high quality non-translated Arabic children’s books.
Publishers of children’s books in the five focus countries of the programme, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, are invited to submit their entries before October 15th, 2010.
The winners will be honoured at a ceremony in the presence of the media. The award will include a trophy and a cash prize of €1,000 for each author and illustrator of the winning books as well as a cash prize of €2,000 to the publishers of the winning books. An additional prize of €200 will be bestowed to new or emerging authors or illustrators of the winning books, i.e. authors and illustrators who have previously written or illustrated no more than one book. A special preference will be given for books that target pre-schoolers (ages 0-5) and young adults (12 and above).
The “Arab Children Literature Programme” of the Anna Lindh Foundation is a regional programme launched in 2006 with the support of SIDA, and seeks to strengthen the intellectual, social and emotional development of children in the Arab region through developing children literature and promoting reading for pleasure. The programme is being implemented in the five focus countries of the programme, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.
The Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is a €7 million EU-funded project which aims at bringing people and organisations of the region closer and promoting dialogue, by offering them opportunities to work together on projects in the fields of culture, education, science, human rights, sustainable development, the empowerment of women and the arts. The Foundation is the first institution to be jointly created and co-financed by all member countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. (ENPI Info Centre)
