“The recent conclusion of the Agreement between the EU and Jordan, after the one obtained with Morocco, paves the way towards this Euro-Mediterranean Common Aviation Area. The discussions with Lebanon, Tunisia and Israel are also promising and the EU door remains open to any other Mediterranean countries keen to engage in talks with us.”,said the EC Vice-President and Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas in an interview published in the EU-funded project Euromed Aviation August newsletter.
The newsletter, Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Info 6, also announces the integration of Jordan in the European Aeronautical Information Service Database (EAD). “Through the Euromed Aviation Project, Jordan was invited as well as other Beneficiary States of the Project to merge with one of the 3 EUROCONTROL Pan European functions namely the European Aeronautical Information Service Database (EAD) as a data provider and/or data user.” , it said.
The publication also features an article on the Joint Mediterranean Aviation Authorities (JMAA) as one of the 60 high level objectives of the Road Map for the implementation of the Euro-Mediterranean Common Aviation Area, as well as other project news and activities.
Euro-Med Aviation is funded by the EU under the Euro-Med Transport programme with a budget of €5 million over a period of three years. Its aim is to promote the emergence of a Euro-Mediterranean Common Aviation Area and facilitate any future negotiations of comprehensive Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Agreements. It also seeks to reinforce air transport cooperation and improve aviation safety and security in the beneficiary countries. (ENPI Info Centre)
