Italy-Tunisia cross-border cooperation programme launches first newsletter
03-02-2012
The EU-funded Italy-Tunisia cross-border cooperation programme has launched its first newsletter with a view to keeping potential beneficiaries and the public informed about the latest opportunities offered within the framework of this programme. The four-page publication, available in French, Italian and Arabic, includes a short presentation of the 13 projects approved after the first call.
The first edition of the newsletter features an interview with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata, which mainly focuses on the priority areas of cooperation between Italy and Tunisia including regional development, environment, culture and trade, while highlighting the role Italy can play in building a stable partnership with Tunisia.
The publication also features an interview with Gaetano Armao, the Regional Minister of Economy for the Sicily Region, which examines the challenges of institutional cooperation and the results of the thirteen projects funded by the EU in 2011. Among these projects, which were approved for funding in November last year, 9 will focus on the development and regional integration of Sicilian and Tunisian territories. One of these projects, Agro-Med, will aim to improve the quality of agri-food production on international markets by creating a Mediterranean Observatory for quality control.
The newsletter also announces the results of the call for proposals for strategic projects which closed on 9 December 2011. Out of the 32 proposals received, 16 were approved in areas such as regional development and integration, as well as sustainable development. It also makes reference to the second call for standard proposals for an estimated amount of € 5,200,000 which will focus on the 3 priority areas of the Programme.
Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) reinforces cooperation between regions of EU Member States and Partner Countries on EU's external borders. EU financing for the Italy-Tunisia CBC programme is of €25.1 million for the period 2007-2013. (ENPI Info Centre)
