Greenhouse documentaries kick off 2012 on a high note
06-02-2012

Three documentaries, telling powerful human stories from the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, produced through the EU-funded Greenhouse project, have received prestigious distinctions at international festivals.
Last week,5 Broken Cameras , Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi’s feature-length documentary about peaceful Palestinian resistance, won the World Cinema Documentary Directing Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film was developed as part of Euromed’s Audiovisual’s fourth round of Greenhouse in 2009, and last November also won two awards at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). 5 Broken Cameras has been invited to participate in numerous film festivals around the world, among them Canadian Hotdocs, Cinema Du Reel in Paris and Movies that Matter in The Hague.
In France,Ameer Got His Gunby Naomi Levaria and Saar Yogev won the FIPA D'OR Grand Prize at the International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes (FIPA). The documentary tells the story of Ameer Abu Ria who is about to enlist in the Israeli army, despite being exempt under the assumption that his enlistment may endanger Israel’s security. But Ameer, both an Israeli citizen and a Muslim Arab, has decided to volunteer. He believes it is the way to equality, to belong to the state he lives in, to the state he wants to love.
Meanwhile,Dolphin Boy by Israeli filmmakers Dani Menkin and Yonatan Nir, a documentary about the healing power of nature and love, has been nominated for the International Green Film Award at the Cinema for Peace Gala, Berlin, this February. Dolphin Boy was also chosen in the HotDocs Official Selection for 2011, received the Best Documentary award at The World Festival for Underwater Picture 2011, a Jury Special Mention at The Jerusalem International Film Festival 2011, and won the Audience Award at The Washington Jewish Film Festival 2011.
Last but not least, Voice of My Fatherco-directed by Zeynel Dogan and Orhan Eskikoy and produced by Ozgur Dogan from Turkey, a film from Greenhouse's third round, has been selected for the 2012 International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) in the Tiger Competition for feature films. The winners of the IFFR's Hivos Tiger Awards will be announced on February 3.
Applications are still open for the documentary development programme, but close on February 20. You can still apply here!
