UfM workshop puts Mediterranean water issues in the spotlight

The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Spanish region of Murcia recently jointly organised a seminar to exchange experiences in the development and proper use of resources in water-scarce regions.

A press release said the three-day seminar, held in Murcia from 21 to 23 February, focused on the analysis of Murcia’s successful experience in the field of water preservation and re-use.  Participants also discussed the development of regional and sub-regional projects to tackle specific issues faced by water-scarce countries in the region.
This international forum brought together 20 experts from nine member-countries of the Union for the Mediterranean. The Deputy General Secretary and Head of Environment and Water Division in the UfM, Rafiq Husseini, described the Region of Murcia as “a model in the efficient use of water resources”, and stressed the importance of cooperation between regions to “exchange experience and expertise in technology and research”.
The working sessions were complemented by field visits to learn about the successful experience of Murcia in the area of water resources management. (ENPI Info Centre)
