EMUNI and global, tuition-free, online university agree to work together

Members of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI University) Management Board have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding as a legal basis for cooperation between EMUNI University and the University of the People (UoPeople). UoPeople is a global, tuition-free, online university, which was founded in 2009.

The idea is that this will allow the two universities to create synergies and work together towards the accreditation of UoPeople programmes (on Business Administration and Computer Sciences) through EMUNI and the establishment of double degrees.
The move came at a meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI University) Management Board, hosted by the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), which heard a presentation by entrepreneur Mr. Shai Reshef about the University of the People.

The University of the People is a non-profit academic institution involving more than 1,300 students from nearly 130 countries and aims to use internet tools to provide high level studies to those who, due to financial, geographic or social constraints, might otherwise never have access to regular education systems.

UfM Deputy Secretary General Prof. Ilan Chet, who chaired the meeting, underlined that the launching of this project will represent “a big opportunity to give a second chance to the young people especially from the southern countries of the Mediterranean who will have tools to increase their employability chances”.

A decision was made to take the theme up during the International Symposium on EMUNI E-Learning, which will be held in Lugano (Switzerland) on 16 and 17 March. (ENPI Info Centre)
