14 July deadline to apply for €62.4 million CBC Med call for strategic projects

Interested parties have until 14 July to send proposals (concept notes) for the €62.4 million call for strategic projects under the CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme, around the objective of “enhancing partnerships and addressing common challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean area”. The call was launched last month by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, acting as Joint Managing Authority of the Programme.

The Programme, funded by the European Union within the Cross-Border objective of the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument, involves 14 countries: Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, occupied Palestinian territory, Portugal, Spain, Syria and Tunisia.

The call for strategic projects follows the interest drawn by the first call for standard projects, which received around 600 proposals. This new call focuses on the six following topics:

1.     Agro-food industry
2.     Sustainable tourism
3.     Integrated Coastal Zone Management
4.     Water management
5.     Waste treatment and recycling
6.     Solar energy

The deadline for sending project concept notes is 14 July 2011. The Application pack is available on the Programme website, by clicking here.

Materials from information events held in Valencia, Tunis, Nicosia and Beirut are also available for download on the project’s website. The events gathered more than 600 people from the cooperation area, allowing participants to deepen their knowledge of the main rules of the call and of the six strategic topics as well as to share project ideas and build Euro-Mediterranean partnerships.

The programme website also provides two tools to support the preparation of project proposals and partnerships building:

• Project ideas: looking for partners or want to promote a project idea? Check the Project ideas database.

• Questions and answers: this section contains the questions on the call for strategic projects that may be relevant to all Applicants. Any question on the call shall be submitted using the dedicated submit a question function. Questions and answers are updated on a regular basis.
