Practical guide: Women and Media in the Euromed Region

The EU-funded gender equality programme has developed a practical guide for the press on "Women and Media in the Euro-Mediterranean Region" to improve the portrayal of women in the media in the region.
 
The guide, available in English, French and Arabic, seeks to reinforce the capacities of media to promote a balanced and non-stereotyped image of women in the media of the Euro-Mediterranean region, said a press release from the Enhancing Equality between Men and Women (EGEP) programme.
 
"Women and Media in the Euro-Mediterranean Region" is the first of its kind in bringing together international and regional Arab and Euro-Mediterranean references on gender equality. The Manual consists of three modules: The international and regional legal frameworkfor equality between men and women and the gender question; Stereotypes of men and women conveyed by the media in the Euromed Region; Analysis of media discourse on issues related to equality.
 
The publication was adopted for the first time during a training session organized in Brussels from 27-29 June, gathering about twenty journalists from the Mediterranean region (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, OPT, Syria, Tunisia), as well as from several European Union countries.
