From 2014 to 2018, Ukrainian scientists and entrepreneurs submitted 1,738 applications to participate in the EU’s programme on research and innovation, Horizon 2020. Exactly 110 of them were funded, resulting in 184 scientific and innovation projects being implemented. The total funding for Ukrainian organisations amounted to nearly €21.7 million.

A dedicated website (http://h2020.com.ua) containing information on news, events and opportunities available through Horizon 2020, instructions on how to apply and contacts of the programme representatives in Ukraine has been created by Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science.

Horizon 2020 is the EU's biggest ever framework programme for financing and encouraging research and innovation projects, with a budget of €77 billion over seven years (2014–2020). The vast majority of this funding will be allocated on the basis of competitive calls which are open to applications from researchers, businesses and other interested organisations located in any of the EU Member States or countries associated to Horizon 2020, including the Eastern Neighbourhood countries Armenia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
